Clarify Your Idea of a Custom Dream Home Through Visualization

When you ask someone about their dream home, they can usually come up with some answer because everyone has thought about this topic at least a few times in their lives. Maybe you accidentally came across some pictures of a home and instinctively thought, “How beautiful!” Or maybe you saw a home in a movie which really appealed to you. Or maybe you just imagine yourself living in a Cinderella castle!

Either way, there is usually some image that appeals to you and that occurs to your mind when you use the term “dream home.” It’s possible to draw on this repertoire of images in your head when you design a custom home.

Clarifying Your Idea of a Dream Home

Often, your mental image of a dream home may not be very clear. Maybe you have a vague idea of the kind of home you’d like to live in. But you don’t know exactly where you’d like it to be located. You can’t imagine what the front door looks like or what kind of furniture you have in the living room. You’re not exactly clear on the number of rooms or the size of the backyard. It’s necessary to be clear on all the little details before you begin designing your custom home.

Visualizing Your Custom Dream Home in Detail

When you’re designing a custom home, it pays to know exactly what you’re looking for; you can do this with the process of visualization. There are a couple of different ways in which you can visualize a home. One is to just close your eyes and take yourself through the home in your imagination.

Just think about the home overall, from the outside. What does it look like? What color is it? How big is it? Is there a fence around it? Add as many details as you can, from the faces of your neighbors to the flowers you see in the front yard.

Then enter the home in your imagination. What do you see? Is there a hallway? A staircase? A living room? What type of furniture do you see in the living room? What color are the walls? How many windows do you see?

The idea is to take yourself through the entire home and describe it as much as you can. If you can’t do this in your mind, then grab a piece of paper and a pen and write it all down.

How Does Visualization Work?

The results of visualization can seem a little bit miraculous, even if you only do it once. But visualization is not really a miracle. It just forces you to think about what you’re looking for. So when you sit down to design your home with a custom home builder, you’ll be able to communicate exactly what you’re looking for and how you want your dream home to look. The more details you can give your custom home builder, the better.
